A FINNISH MYTH ABOUT THE NORTHERN LIGHTS
In Finnish language, the northern lights are called “revontulet” which translated literally means “fire fox”.
The name comes from an old myth according to which the northern lights were actually caused by a magic fox who, being very late for the annual winter festival, ran swiftly between the snow-capped mountains. It so happened that at every step, his tail, bumping the blanket of snow, caused sparks that flew up into the sky giving birth to the northern lights.
