Description
YGGDRASILL, THE COSMIC TREE OF NORSE MYTHOLOGY
Yggdrasill is the cosmic tree with its branches supports all nine worlds of which is composed the universe. Its majesty is the symbolic link between all parts of the universe that turn out to be interdependent and its evergreen branches symbolize eternity.
It is supported by three mighty roots, each of which is located at one of the three sacred sources. Custodians of one of them are three Norns: goddesses of destiny of all living beings, including the gods. The three sisters are taking care of the tree by giving him water and clay to avoid that it dried or it rot because it determines not only human life, but also the future of the universe itself.
At Yggdrasill, the gods gather daily for advice.
The cosmic tree represents the elevation from earth to heaven and, at the same time, the constant antagonism between the material and the spiritual. So a squirrel, Rotatoskr, runs continuously along the trunk and has the task of bringing back the bad words exchanged between an eagle perched among the highest branches and a snake that, with others, erodes its roots. Other symbolic animals surround the tree and feed on its leaves.
Yggdrasill embodies the concepts of power, of divine wisdom and of sacredness. In addition, being the symbol of the three spatial layers of the being (underworld, earth and heaven) and of their interrelationship, the cosmic tree combines in itself also the three fundamental moments of time: past, present, future. The tree thus becomes the emblem and the source of the cosmic wisdom.
The jewels of the collection MITI are inspired by mythical characters or events.
